The Westchester County Office for Women officially opened its doors in August 1980. The opening of the Office for Women began a new era for women in Westchester as they now had a centralized, community-based resource in county government mandated to address the needs of women and families.
Westchester was the first county in New York State to establish an Office for Women. Since it opened in 1980, it has served as a model for similar agencies in three other counties and two cities in New York. The Office for Women is a commission on the status of women.
